*Jamice Jones, the first female automotive apprentice for the City of San Francisco, started her career as a single mom receiving public assistance. She now earns $41.40 per hour in a union position with more pay raises to come…she attended College of Alameda and had no prior automotive experience.

Students in College of Alameda’s Diesel program are placed into jobs that pay $26 to $35 per hour to start – with only a certificate. Master Mechanics make up to $100k+!


You can earn a better salary, gain confidence in yourself, and do meaningful work. No automotive experience required! College of Alameda’s Diesel Program has an excellent reputation and students are highly sought after. Employers that have hired students include CalTrans, Peterbilt, and Waste Management. Companies with great pay and great benefits.

College of Alameda will teach you everything you need to know and help you get a paid internship or apprenticeship. Many students graduate with certifications in Air Brake, Forklift Operation, Crane Operation, DOT Inspections. Students learn their trade on the latest equipment and trucks donated by industry. Will employers hire me?

Employers want to hire women as Diesel Mechanics. 100% of graduates of the COA Diesel Mechanics program are placed. There's an extreme shortage of Diesel Mechanics, instructors receive daily inquiries from employers seeking students. Many students start working before they finish their Certificate.

Will I be the only woman?

There are currently 3 female students in the COA Diesel program and we are making a big recruitment push to add more! You will not be alone. We will also connect you to a female instructor of the program who is now retired but is volunteering with this effort and is happy to be a mentor.

I don't have a background in cars, I've never even owned one, can I really be a mechanic?

Absolutely, Jamice Jones the first female auto apprentice for the city of San Francisco had never owned a car and had no automotive background, if she can do it, you can too!
