101= Gear, Equipment, Fishing Access & Flies

For the absolute beginner angler who wants to learn about all of the foundational basics related to fly fishing equipment and its application on the water. No gear required! Learn about our local ecosystem, fly fishing gear, apparel options, fishing regulations, public access and licenses, and additional learning resources to support your journey. We'll wrap up with an introduction to basic fly patterns. No gear needed-feel free to bring any fishing gear that you own if you have questions that you'd like to be addressed

Rain or Shine. Tuesdays May 14th 6-8pm

201= Reading Water, Entomology, Knots & Rigging

Walk along the Gallatin River to explore and identify bugs and learn about trout habitat and how to 'read the water' to find fish. We'll also discuss stream etiquette best practices and how to utilize mindfulness skills on the water while fishing and as a means with which to lessen our ecological impact as we explore wild terrain. Return to the lodge to learn about fly selection based upon river ecosystem observations, rigging techniques, and science-based safe fish handling via the 'Keep Fish Wet' method(catch and release). Classroom setting – no fishing **Gear needed-while we won't be doing any fishing please bring comfortable and appropriate outdoor clothing for our river walk(waterproof footwear and polarized sunglasses will be helpful but not required).** Feel free to bring any fishing gear that you own if you have questions that you'd like to be addressed

301= Fly Casting

A social event, celebrate with new friends and put all you’ve learned into practice while exploring and refining various beginner friendly fly cast methods. We'll begin with a mindful movement and hand eye coordination practice, followed by time to work on your cast with support from your facilitators. Cast and cocktail/mocktail with small bites inside of a fun and laidback community setting. **Gear needed-Be sure to bring comfortable outdoor clothing with sunglasses, a brimmed hat, and sunblock.** Fly rods(9ft 5wts) are available for your use while casting, but if you own your own please bring it along so you can learn how to cast with your own rod
