Our speaker, Jensen Caraballo, is a committed Disability Justice Activist based in Rochester, New York, originally from Guayama, Puerto Rico. His advocacy was shaped by early experiences, notably being forced into a nursing home at 15 and his subsequent fight for the right to live independently, which led him to engage with organizations like the Center for Disability Rights (CDR) and the Regional Center for Independent Living (RCIL). His personal experience as a severely disabled individual living independently in the community powerfully underscores his advocacy. Driven by the imperative of his work and the transformations he seeks in societal attitudes towards disability, Jensen defines success by witnessing shifts in ableist perspectives.
