All of us probably come across bold claims about AI replacing translators and interpreters, or that AI is only for tech-savvy people. It's easy to feel uncertain in the face of all this talk. The conversation around AI is loud—and not always reassuring.

To analyze preconceptions about AI -myths, as our speaker calls them- we’re inviting you to join Joe for a refreshing look at the reality behind the headlines. In this session, we will explore five common AI myths that are shaping conversations in our industry and that we can challenge:

AI is replacing Translators and Interpreters.
Clients only care about speed and price now.
Using AI as a translator or interpreter means you’re selling out.
We have to lower our rates "because of AI."
AI is only for tech-savvy people with a lot of time on their hands.

About the speaker: Joachim (Joe) was born into a French-speaking family in Belgium and grew up in the U.S.A. before moving to Quebec in 2006. When he took his first translation course—on a whim—he knew he had found his calling. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in translation and a master’s degree in education. In the ensuing years, he translated for a myriad of prestigious clients in Quebec and abroad. To share his passion for the craft, over the past 15 years, Joe has taught French-into-English translation and related courses at Université de Sherbrooke and trained for NATO, the United Nations, the European Commission, OTTIAQ, Magistrad, Editors Canada, the Translation Bureau, ITI (UK), Training for Translators (USA), and many others. Today he is the cofounder of LION Translation Academy, which offers training to help translators and translation teams to thrive in every area of their practice.

This event will be hosted and moderated by the Education and Content team within the Global Community of Women in Localization.
