WISE Up Summit: Knowledge Ends Extremism

TheWomen’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality (WISE)was established in 2005 as a faith-based grassroots social justice movement. In 2015, WISE became an independent organization and currently operates as a partner project under the Fund for the City of New York (FCNY), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.Vision:Muslim women leading the creation of a peaceful and prosperous world anchored in gender equality and human dignity.Mission:WISE convenes and promotes solidarity amongMuslim women leadersso they can collectively pursue social change. We amplify Muslim women voices at all levels of political, economic, religious, and social discourse. We provide faith based knowledge and toolkitsto end injustices such as female genital mutilation, child marriage, domestic violence, and violent extremism.Our Approach:WISE accomplishesour mission by collaborating across faith and gender lines, and in cooperation with both private and public secular institutions.Strategy:WISE addresses the pressing challenges facing the global Muslim community, particularly gender-based inequality, with our holistic four-pronged Change Theory:Collaboration–Foster a culture of support among Muslim women to create long term strategic goals for women’s empowerment.WISE’s global convenings and local country forumsunite diverse Muslim women with women of other faithsto facilitate knowledge-sharing and skill-building tools to increase the effectiveness of women as leaders.Education– Provide research and evidence-based reports for Muslim women’s advocacy efforts.WISE’s Global Muslim Women’s Shura Council’s publishes opinion papers usingfaith-based arguments toend corrupt customs which violate women’s rights and the dignity of all people.Communication–Function as an authoritative source and clearinghouse on Muslim women’s history and issues.WISE’s online platform,www.wisemuslimwomen.org, showcases the positive contributions of Muslim women past and present, andpublicizes reliable informationon Muslim women’s contemporary issues and their advocacy efforts.Action–To facilitate culturally sensitive approaches for championing women’s rights at the grassroots level.WISE’s global network of grassroots women uses a multi-pronged approach toincubate new and innovative projects for the upliftment of women and girls. WISE trains and partners with women NGO’s and influential male faith leaders to champion women rights and to promote peacebuilding.Since 2006, WISE has convened hundreds of Muslim women leaders from around the globe to build their capacity as leaders, equipping them with knowledge of their rights and enabling them touse their voice, pen, purse, and power to elevate the status of Muslim women and girls around the globe.WISE delivers its programs through support from family foundations, and institutional and individual donors. Our innovative projects have been featured in major media, includingCNN, theBBC,MSNBC,Huffington Post,The New York Times, andTime Magazine. Please Join us at a historic gathering of hundreds of religious and community leaders, scholars, academics, policymakers, lawmakers to launch WISE Up:Knowledge Ends Extremism at a full day Summit in Washington, DC on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Carnegie Institution for Science, <A HREF="https://maps.google.com/?q=1530+P+Street+North+West,+Washington,+DC+20005&entry=gmail&source=g" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">1530 P Street North West, Washington, DC 20005</A>. Registration starts at 9:00 AM, with the Summit beginning promptly at 9.30 AM and ending at 5:00 PM.
October 26th will be your WISE Up day as you learn about this multi-faceted campaign aimed at preventing the spread of extremist ideology and hate crimes in America. You will see how knowledge is the most powerful tool against all forms of extremism. This day-long Summit is aimed at uniting Americans of goodwill to strengthen our national unity.

WISE Up Summit is a full day event. If you can afford the time, please consider staying for the day. It is an intensive on American Muslims, Islam, ideology of Extremists, beliefs of Muslims, other forms of extremism, creating resilient families, inspiring through heroes.

It will highlight WISE Up as an unprecedented collaborative community effort between scholars, community leaders, activists, and veterans with diverse ideologies and national origins who have developed a holistic solution to Islamophobia and extremism.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">The day sessions will center around the 375 page research and evidence-based report of knowledge, WISE Up, authored by over 70 noted Muslim scholars, faith leaders, public servants, and veterans who contributed their expertise to develop practical ways to combat hate crimes, Islamophobia, and terrorism.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">We will present an abstract of an upcoming WISE Up Policy paper aimed at Policymakers, Media, Muslim, and interfaith communities.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will hear directly from the Voices of American Muslims – their engagement in public life, the challenges they confront as American citizen, and creative ways that they deal with these obstacles.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will be surprised and inspired by 35 notable American Muslims who enrich America every day.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will finally see the missing piece of the puzzle: a clear comparison between Islamic Theology vs. Extremist Ideology and ways in which Muslims debunk distortions of Islamic terms by ISIS.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will understand the push and pull factors that motivate men and women to join extremist groups and you will learn ways to prevent extremist recruitment online.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will hear specialists explain how to strengthen families, how to rehabilitate prison inmates, how to do bystander intervention, and how tocounter hate speech.</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will be inspired to hear about the 40 Muslim heroes profiled in WISE Up</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">You will dozens of heroic initiatives led by Muslim and interfaith promoting interfaith cooperation.</LI>
