Winter Tree Hike
Overview
It's wintertime at Sky Meadows, but there is still so much to explore in the lush forests of the Shenandoah Valley. While a lack of leaves can make tree identification more difficult, there are still many clues that you can use to identify trees in their leafless state. Join one of our Rangers on a guided hike down Snowden Trail to learn about prominent tree species in the park, their roles in the environment, and how to spot them! Participants will learn how to use twig characteristics, fruit clues, and bark characteristics to aid in identification and gain appreciation for the winter landscape at Sky Meadows.
Meet at the Carriage Barn in the Historic Area. The hike distance will be approximately 2 miles and last 1.5 to 2 hours. Registration is highly encouraged.
Please dress for the weather, wear footwear appropriate for hiking and bring water/snacks for all hikes. Leashed pets are welcome on all hikes.
