Winter Outlook Workshop

The mission of the Water Education Foundation, an impartial, nonprofit organization, is to inspire understanding of water and catalyze critical conversations to build bridges and inform collaborative decision-making.Our history dates back to 1977 when California was in the second year of a major drought and water was at the forefront of the news. The Foundation’s articles of incorporation were filed on Feb. 27 of that year, creating a nonprofit, nonpolitical, tax-exempt educational organization. Today, the Sacramento-based Foundation remains a vital source of nonpartisan, in-depth information about water resource issues in California and the West. Taking a steady pulse of the water world, the Foundation provides a vast repertoire of educational materials, products and services such as our water tours, lectures, conferences, workshops, our flagshipWestern Waternews articles and Project WET (Water Education Today).

Participants will hear about the latest advancements in sub-seasonal to seasonal forecasting to improve water resource management.

Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences & Engineering

This one-day event will feature expert research meteorologists and climate scientists from the National Weather Service, Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes, DWR and others discussing improvements in the science of long-range forecasting – critical for managing water supplies – and what may be in store for this winter&#x27;s precipitation.The event also will feature current information about climate change implications for forecasting and experimental forecasting work for the Upper Colorado River Basin, which has been suffering through more than two decades of dry conditions.Registration fee for the in-person event includes refreshments, lunch and materials.
