Winter Hill Guided Walk

This is a volunteer-led guided walk across the Woodland Trust Smithills Estate. Visit the location of the Winter Hill aircraft disaster and other aircraft incidents. Explore the moors and take in some of the amazing views, including trying to spot landmarks such as Jodrell Bank, Great Orm, Blackpool Tower, and Pendle Hill. Discover where the water flows that originates from the Douglas Spring.

Further information:

• This walk will be cancelled if there is severe weather. Please check your emails on the day before the walk and ensure you come in weather-appropriate gear.
• All ages of family are welcome. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Dogs on leads welcome.
• This walk is approx. 4 hours, 11.7 km/ 7.3 miles with 230m elevation. It is partly on footpaths and partly on uneven ground. This walk is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
• Please bring refreshments for the journey.
• Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues before the start of the walk, e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc.
• Walker Fold car park has 60 spaces and is free but donations are welcome via our solar-powered car park machine.
• Walker Fold can have poor phone signal, please plan your route ahead of time.
