Winter Beehive Prep Workshop

Join Sustainable Nantucket’s mentor beekeeper Peter Brace for an informative workshop on the essentials of preparing beehives for winter on the island. This workshop is geared towards new and seasoned beekeepers looking to learn how to keep their hives warm, dry, and healthy during the offseason. Peter will share his preferred hive readiness techniques, how to check your bees from outside the hive, what to feed them when their food may be running low, how to deal with moisture accumulation in the hive, and how to handle a dead hive. Bee food alternatives, handling varroa mite and small hive beetle infestations during the colder months, and late-winter spring preparations will also be covered.
