Wines of the World: Burgundy & Beyond
September 2–23 | 4-week Series | $100

Explore the foundations of wine tasting and French wine styles in this focused 4-week series. Guided by the expert staff of Lake Michigan College’s Wine and Viticulture Technology Program, you'll build your sensory vocabulary, learn how to evaluate wine, and explore two of the world’s most celebrated grape varieties: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Each session features guided tastings comparing benchmark French wines with New World expressions—including examples from southwest Michigan.

Session Schedule:

  • September 2: Introduction to Tasting and Sensory Analysis
  • September 9: Elements of Wine Style
  • September 16: White Burgundy and Chardonnay
  • September 23: Pinot Noir and Spätburgunder

This one-time $100 course fee covers all four class meetings. Wines are included in the tasting each week!


Course Meeting Times

This class runs concurrently with LMC's Wine and Viticulture Technology "Wines of the World I" course on Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm-7:00pm from September 2nd through December 9th. Class meets on LMC's Benton Harbor Campus at the Welch Center for Wine and Viticulture Technology.

If you are interested in taking the 14-week Wines of the World I for college credit, please reach out to Program Director Tim Godfrey at tgodfrey@lakemichigancollege.edu. Please note that by registering for this class through Eventbrite you will not be eligible to receive LMC Credit.

What should you expect each class period?

Each class period will begin with a short lecture about the highlighted region for that week, followed by a guided tasting of 4-5 wines from that region.

What regions are going to be covered in this class?

This class focuses on French Wine Regions with other New World Examples to explore the prominent varieties.

Does the course fee cover all 4 classes?

Yes, this one-time course fee will cover your attendance for all 4 Tuesday evenings this session.

What if I can't make it to each session?

Attendance is not mandatory, but there are no make ups.

Is there a book used for this class?

Yes, our Wine and Viticulture Technology degree students will be completing readings from Karen MacNeil's Wine Bible (3rd Edition). The reading schedule will be shared prior to the first meeting date for those interested in following along.

Can this course be used for college credit?

No. Only students that enroll and register for the 14-week ENOL 105 - Wines of the World I through Lake Michigan College will be eligible for college credit. If interested, please contact Program Director Tim Godfrey at tgodfrey@lakemichigancollege.edu
