ABOUT US WoSA

Wines of South Africa (WoSA) is a fully inclusive body, representing all South African producers of wine who export their products. WOSA, which was established in its current form in 1999, has over 500 producers on its database, comprising all the major South African wine exporters. It is constituted as a not-for-profit company and is totally independent of any producer or wholesaling company. It is also independent of any government department, although it is recognised by government as an Export Council.

WoSA is funded by a statutory levy per litre on all natural and sparkling wines exported.

Mandate:

WoSA's mandate is to promote the export of all South African wines in key international markets. Traditional markets include the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands, with focus on developing markets for South African wines in the United States, Canada, China, Japan and key African Countries.

WoSA exhibits regularly at major wine shows including ProWein in Germany and China and Vinexpo, and works closely with the tourism authorities to advance Cape wine tourism. In addition, WoSA hosts regular marketing seminars for members highlighting changing international market needs, demands and opportunities.

Wine and lifestyle journalists and Influencers are invited to the Cape on an ongoing basis. The visiting groups are exposed to the physical beauty and cultural heritage of the region's winelands.

WoSA furthermore hosts the CapeWine trade exhibition, the flagship business showcase of the South African wine industry. The first show was held in 2000. The latest, CapeWine 2018, a three-day showcase to the international wine fraternity, was a resounding success. Held every three years, 2018’s trade fair drew 2 414 local and international visitors. Due to the unforeseen circumstances Covid-19 created in 2020, the next CapeWine is scheduled to take place from 5-7 October 2022 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

WoSA’s Chief Executive Officer, Siobhan Thompson, was appointed in November 2013. An international marketing specialist, she has experience across various industries, including alcohol, FMC and education. Carina Gous was appointed non-executive chairperson of WoSA in November 2017, taking over from Michael Jordaan, who held the seat for the prior three years.
