7-Hour Workshop

Date: Saturday, June 29, 2024

Time: 10am-5pm

Description: Willow can be woven into functional forms that serve life's most monumental moments - from bassinets at birth, to caskets at the end of life. This tray, held together by tension, is fit for life's more common celebrations and gatherhings, but showcases willow's signature resilience and strength all the same. Its exuberant form can be used for serving or holding, or hung on the wall as a decorative piece. Explore the power of creating with this humble, natural material, which happily shapeshifts from wild to refined as we give it new purpose.

*Please note this work is hand and wrist intensive.

About the Artist

Dan Brockett creates handwoven baskets from willow grown on his 12 acre property, Foggy Blossom Farm, in Leechburg, PA. As a grower turned self-taught artist, there is an element of companionship with, and reverence for, his material that permeates every project. From choosing the willow varieties he plants to eventually harvesting and selecting each rod for a specific basket, Dan's desire to be in relationship with all aspects of his craft is the driving force behind his work.
