    Come experience the music and tradition of the Aymara community from the Altiplano area in South America! Through the musical interpretation of Ajayu and Comunidad Anqari, this event will continue to cultivate the customs and sounds of the highlands here on this side of the hemisphere.

    Willkakuti

    The celebration of Willkakuti (Aymara for Return of the Sun) is an Aymara celebration in Bolivia, Chile and the Puno Region of Southern Peru which takes place annually on June 21st, commemorating the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.

    About Ajayu:

    Ajayu is a Bay Area band that fuses traditional native sounds of the Andes region using Andean flutes, sikus (pan flutes/zampoñas) and quenas, and the traditional string instrument, the Charango, with a contemporary sound of rock and latin rhythms, creating a psychedelic unique mix.     About Comunidad Anqari:

    Comunidad Anqari is a SF Bay Area based Andean Indigenous Music and Dance ensemble, founded in late 2012. They promote music from the South Andean region known as Collasuyu, a very culturally rich area were communities still keep intact their ancestral way of leaving, playing and dancing music.     Coraza is a feminist indie folk-pop group based in Oakland, CA. With roots in Chile, Guam, Mexico, and the Philippines, Coraza’s sound is a unique fusion of experimental and traditional; nostalgic and provocative, combining elements of South American folkloric style (à la Violeta Parra and Mercedes Sosa) with catchy contemporary rhythms, bilingual lyrics, electric distortions, and delicious harmonies.
