Wildflower (Morning) Plant Walk to Old Bald on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Come join us for a beautiful morning plant walk to Old Bald on the Blue Ridge Parkway! We will explore the stunning wildflowers that bloom along the trail while taking in the breathtaking views of the mountains. Mark your calendars and join us for a memorable experience in nature.
We will be meeting on the Blue Ridge Parkway to walk out to Old Bald, one of a series of High Elevation Mountain Balds that can be found in this area. Along the way we will be walking along a ridgeline through Old Growth, yet stunted Oak Trees, and will see some beautiful Wildflowers.
Here is a link to a writeup with good directions to the trailhead, which says "The trailhead for this stretch of the Mountains to Sea sits in a blind hairpin curve at mile 434.2 on the Parkway. It isn’t a formal overlook, merely a grassy area beside the roadway with just enough room for a few cars. Be careful when you pull over because of the blind curve. Traffic could be coming the other way. You will know you have the right spot if you see an iron t-bar about 30 feet up the trail."

I will be standing along the roadway at the trailhead, and will be very visible. Please let me know if you have any questions about where to meet.
All of the Friday Wildflower Walks are offered on a sliding scale of $15-$50 per person, and are capped at 15 people per session. This allows for more people to be able to attend the walks. I ask that attendees pay based on their ability, and on how they value the experience. Please contact me for special sliding scale attendance by emailing me at bigelownc@gmail.com. Payment can be cash, check, or online through Venmo.
Weekly Wildflower Walks will be meeting on Fridays throughout the season, with a morning session from 9am to 12pm, and an afternoon session from 1pm to 4pm. We will meet at a different location each week, following and chasing the best blooms and locations. Remember that on our walks The Wildflowers Are the Destination!
