Desert Door is a craft distiller of a premium and unique Texas spirit known as Texas sotol. Our liquor is made from the sotol plant which we wild-harvest all across Texas, from Driftwood to Marfa. Sotol was the first alcoholic beverage ever consumed by humans in Texas 800 years ago, and the plant has been in use for over 13,000 years. Our sotol is smoother than whiskey, less smokey than mezcal, and it doesn’t burn like tequila.

At Desert Door, we&#x27;ve always had a deep connection with the outdoors, our so-called wild spaces. After all, that&#x27;s where the idea for our spirit was inspired. We know these spaces aren&#x27;t always accessible in the way we&#x27;ve come to know them. And we want to change that.Can’t come to the wild? We’ll bring the wild to you. Our WILD event series will transport you to some truly wild places that you probably didn’t realize were in your own backyard. Here, you can fully embrace the outside. And you needn’t worry about roughing it - your time in the wild comes with an elegant three course meal that promises to be as breathtaking as the surrounding landscape. We&#x27;re honored to invite three Austin-based chefs to help ferry us on this al fresco journey: Julien Hawkins of <a href="https://hestiaaustin.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hestia</a>, Amanda Turner of <a href="http://thefierytalon.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Fiery Talon</a>, and Ty Burton of <a href="https://contigotexas.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Contigo</a>. They will each be preparing a menu of delectable hunter/gatherer themed cuisine. Hand-crafted cocktails specially designed to complement the menu will accompany each meal. Along with the meal and complimentary cocktail pairings, there will be the option to add on one unique fin and field experience, where guests have the chance to adventure around and learn about the lush surroundings.Come join us for what promises to be an unforgettable event in the wild. Hawkins worked at Emmer &amp; Rye for 5 years and was an opening chef at Hestia in 2019.Amanda TurnerChef Amanda Turner has been a part of the Austin culinary scene for the past 13 years. During that time she has been on the opening and operating staffs of Uchi/ko, Odd Duck and Juniper – where she worked with chefs and farmers on many types of cuisine including Japanese, New American and Italian. In 2017, she won the Ment’or BKB grant for continuing education in culinary arts that gave her the opportunity to spend time interning in Tokyo where she worked at Den (World’s 50 best ranked #11) and Ryugin.
