Tom Vick

Director Charlie Ahearn appears in person with the cult film that inspired the title of the Freer Sackler exhibition Kung Fu Wildstyle. This docu-drama is a colorful time capsule of the creative cauldron of hip hop and street art in New York in the early 80s. Featuring appearances by such legendary icons of the era as Fab 5 Freddy, Grandmaster Flash, the Cold Crush Brothers, Lady Pink and many others, it stars Lee Quinones in a version of himself: a graffiti artist hustling his way to art world success while trying to woo his capricious girlfriend. A discussion with Ahearn follows the screening.
