The Wild Beautiful Orchestra with Kim Robards Dance and guest vocalists Johnnie Felder and Laura Kimmel

What sort of music are people writing here in Colorado? Join us for an afternoon of heartfelt and playful new works by Colorado-based composers and their friends. Every piece tells a story, whether it’s through words, dance, or instruments.

Kim Robards has choreographed two of these works: Daddy-Daughter Waltz is a tender and uplifting piece exploring family bonds, while Invitation from the Chair is the graphic dialogue of an anguished and resistant patient with an imploring and healing psychiatric chair. In addition to dancers, vocalists and small chorus will add poetry and texture to three of the pieces.

Instrumental works range from intimate duets to colorful music for chamber orchestra. The composers were inspired by concepts such as transformation and the search for meaning, as well as love, schools of fish, and the sounds of MRI machines.

Wild Beautiful Orchestra is a dynamic collective of professionals and youth. Formed in 2019, WBO collaborates with many other organizations to provide transformative musical experiences for diverse audiences. Kim Robards Dance is a professional modern dance touring company based in Denver.

The Walden School is a summer camp in New Hampshire with programs for children and adults. Their focus is on composition, creative music, performance, electronic music, and choral music. For this concert, five Walden School composers (Loretta Notareschi, Bob Bassett, Michael Frank, Chase Jordan and Brandon Joung) are joined by fellow composer André Godsey and poet Frank Clark, both from South Carolina.

All ages are welcome. First Universalist Church is an accessible venue with a dedicated parking lot. A reception will follow the concert. Join us!
