Why do digital interactive stories matter, especially after the Brexit and Trump vote? 
The recently launched i-Docs book about interactive documentaries reveals how interactive stories are made, how they are evolving and why we need them. Meet the authors...
Judith Aston is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England. Sandra Gaudenzi is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster. Mandy Rose is an Associate Professor at the University of the West of England.
All three have published widely in the field of digital documentary theory and practice, and are co-directors of the i-Docs bi-annual symposium. Their latest book, <A HREF="https://www.amazon.co.uk/i-Docs-Practices-Interactive-Documentary-Nonfictions/dp/023118123X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493129806&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Evolving+Practices+of+Interactive+Documentary" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">i-docs: the Evolving Practices of Interactive Documentary</A>, has just been launched. In this encounter, the authors will summarise the topics and findings of the book but, more importantly, they want to engage in a conversation about the importance and future of interactive storytelling.
How can new forms of non-fiction storytelling contribute to the urgent conversations we need to have in the era of Trump and Brexit? If social and online media played a part in those outcomes, can we reclaim the digital space and use it differently? And how to keep being creative in an industry where funding is difficult?

“disLAB presents” is a series of free encounters organized by the digital and interactive storytelling LAB – <A HREF="https://www.westminster.ac.uk/courses/subjects/journalism-and-mass-communication/postgraduate-courses/september/full-time/digital-and-interactive-storytelling-lab-ma" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">a new MA due to open @Harrow in September 2017</A>.

If you are interested in digital journalism, interactive documentary, apps for social change, educational video games or just digital communication, this series of encounters is for you. The aim is to invite students and young media makers to join the conversation with practitioners, so that together we can start creating the digital stories of the future. 
disLAB challenges the use of digital media to do exciting storytelling. It is about being creative and becoming the storytellers of the future. For this, it is important to be exposed to current practices, be inspired by great makers and dare to innovate ourselves.
By inviting successful digital storytellers to share their current projects and expertise in an informal setting, we hope to bridge the gap between industry and universities. Let’s start our future now.
