White Dwarf

The White Dwarf takes its name from the astronomical system WD 1856+534. A dead star still orbited by a planet, long after the light has gone. Inspired by this cosmic phenomenon, this 45 minute duet explores longing as a gravitational force. The quiet persistent pull between bodies, celestial and human, that survives long after warmth has faded.

Performers Wendy Zhuo and Tan Weiying draw from their shared training in traditional Asian artforms such Noh Theatre, Chinese Opera, Kutiyattam and Butoh's exploration of inner transformation. Through a devised process, movement emerges from the space between two bodies, through tension, distance, and the invisible desire to remain connected. A star. A belief. A relationship. A world. When something collapses, what remains?
