When Technology meets Communication - Using AAC

FIU Embrace is a university-wide initiative that promotes health, wellness, and overall functioning for adults with developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities (ID), and other neurodevelopmental disorders (OND).

*Targeted for students and academic faculty – especially from the para-medical fields, service providers, professionals, family members and people with disabilities.*Mainstream technologies such as smartphones and tablets, as well as more complex technologies, have enabled people with disabilities to communicate in new ways previously unavailable. In this lecture we will present how using different technologies, accessories and apps enables people with disabilities, from early childhood to adulthood, to communicate effectively in different environments.Beit Issie Shapiro is Israel’s leading non-profit organization with a mission to build a more inclusive society across the globe by advancing the rights, equal opportunities and services for people with disabilities; impacting on over half a million people annually.
