When is it enough?

Across the Table is a non-profit whose mission is to break down the barriers between diverse communities by connecting and unifying people from different backgrounds and perspectives through topic-focused, facilitated conversation.Dinners take place in groups of ten to twelve, facilitated around a specific topic of conversation. The topics always revolve around a universal, human experience theme so that anyone can relate, engage and connect.Across the Table was founded by Lauren Grossman in 2008. Dinner took place approximately three times per month, all over the city of Chicago. Lauren stopped working after her oldest son was born in 2011 but Across the Table is re-launching in Evanston!If you'd like to see what an Across the Table dinner is like, you can watch this video about Across the Table that appeard on WTWW:http://video.wttw.com/video/1648550825/Across the Table’s participants enjoy dinners that take place throughout Evanston at ethnically diverse restaurants, community organizations, arts organizations, businesses or other event space. Each dinner group is limited to ten people and is lead by a trained facilitator who will guide the discussion and insure that each participants feels welcome, respected and heard.

Across the Table

We live in a time when many us are striving to be better and while better means different things to different people, many of us find ourselves in a constant loop of trying to be better at our jobs, better parents, better friends, better eaters...we strive to be thinner, stronger, younger, the list goes on! But when is it enough? When do we feel like we are enough and we've reached our potential? This discussion will be broken down into three categories: When am I enough of a support to my loved ones who I feel need me? When am I successful enough at achieving my goals? When do I (and should I) feel that I have enough materially? 
Yeefah Thurman will be facilitating this dinner. Yeefah believes that equality is for all people and that we should have power to stand up for ourselves and others. She was raised in a home where TV was limited and conversation, books and music were emphasized. This fostered her deep desire for gathering information and communicating with others.
