Event description
Learn how to identify trees in the landscape and forest with Master Gardener Carrie Blair of Tree Lover's School

About this event

Transylvania, which translates to across the forest, seems like the perfect setting to offer a tree identification program. The Transylvania Extension Master Gardeners will be hosting this program by fellow Master Gardener and owner of the Tree Lover’s School, Carrie Blair.

This presentation will be of interest to beginner and intermediate botanists/dendrologists.

Carrie will discuss and explain tree identification through the use of slides, books, field guides, leaf sample collections, and twigs.

The audience is invited to bring mystery flowers, leaves, branches and photographs of trees for identification. For photos, please provide both a close-up and a picture of the entire tree.

Carrie has been studying trees since 1977 and continues both her education and teaching as a member of many land conservation and gardening organizations. Carrie’s many qualifications include:

  • President and active member of the Virginia Native Plant Society, Piedmont Chapter, since 1995.
  • State Arboretum of Virginia Docent
  • Virginia Master Gardener Volunteer
  • Virginia Master Naturalist
  • Virginia Tree Steward
  • Western Carolina Botanical Club member
  • Friends of Silvermont volunteer for grounds improvements

On a personal level, Carrie enjoys her 2.5 acre property in Pisgah Forest which has a wet meadow, a substantial creek with waterfalls, and many native trees, shrubs, and ferns.

Please join us to learn the tools and techniques to identify the trees in your landscape as well as in the forest.
