About this event

REGISTRATION AVAILABLE BEGINNING MAY 4TH

Chicago for Chicagoans returns for another tour through Chicago's West Town community area, featuring special guest collaborator Maria Avila Risolute! Maria is a painter, mom, and a lover of history whose passion for this neighborhood goes back many years.

Beginning at Eckhart Park, the tour will cover the architecture, landmarks, and community history of an area known for its many, highly distinctive pocket neighborhoods... most of which we're bypassing in favor of the lesser-known landscape between Kinzie & Chicago Avenues! From its important early role as a home for Ukrainian & Polish immigrants, to the effects of Depression-era redlining, its continuous, diverse industrial history, and current struggles with gentrification... there's lots to be learned from the story of this quiet, artsy community. After the tour, join your co-attendees for a drink at Tumans.

Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
