The Trust is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity in the process of developing over 50 acres in Downtown Columbia, Maryland into an iconic arts and culture park, Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods. The Trust was created by the Columbia Association, Inc. to develop and manage the Park in connection with significant redevelopment in Downtown Columbia, Maryland. The Trust seeks to provide to the region an iconic arts and culture park, and everyday recreational opportunities, while preserving green-space at the center of Columbia’s Downtown development.

<h2>Welcome back!!!</h2><h3><em>Help us fund free performances as we celebrate returning to the Chrysalis at our pay-what-you-wish Friendraiser.</em></h3><p>The Board of Directors of the Inner Arbor Trust invites you to <em>become our  Friend</em> as we celebrate the return of performances and raise money for our free-to-attend 2021 performances.  100% of these free performances are funded by generous donations, sponsorships, and grants.  </p>

<p>Since our founding, a core mission of the Inner Arbor Trust has been to provide a "substantial number" of free performances to the community.  This began in 2017, just after the Chrysalis opened, with a free concert in partnership with the Columbia Orchestra and two free family dance parties on the Chrysalis.  This quickly grew to over 20 free performances per year - all ages concerts with the Columbia Orchestra or Cultura Plenera or children's performances in partnership with Drama Learning Center bringing Junie B. Jones and other literary characters to the stage.  The Chrysalis has become an indispensable part of summer in Columbia.</p><p>We often get asked “why free?”   Free performances are the most fundamental way in which we can meaningfully bring arts and culture to the <em>entire</em> community we serve. Our mission is “to promote and nurture a park in a unique natural setting for a variety of arts and culture experiences that enrich the entire community.”  To embrace the entire community we need to make sure there are high quality, inviting performances for no charge.  Both to make sure that we embrace everyone across the economic spectrum, but also so we can reduce the barrier to experiencing art, especially something new.  Free is far more than an obligation created in our founding documents - free is a conscious choice we make to fulfill our mission.</p><p>For the Trust, the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown not only disrupted our operations, it completely decimated our ability to earn income at events, bring in sponsors, and bring in program donors.  We depend on these revenue streams to bring free concerts to our guests.  </p><p>Understanding that Covid-19 has impacted so many in the community, our Welcome Back Friendraiser will be pay-what-you-wish, with 100% of donations going to free performances.  A cash bar and food for purchase will be available.</p><p><strong>Help us bring free performances back to the Chrysalis in 2021!</strong></p>
