Now in their 42nd season, the North Country Chamber Players, through their unwavering commitment to the area and, having successfully built an audience for classical music in northern New Hampshire, now present their ever-popular six-week-longWhite Mountains Music Festivaland additional year-round chamber music concerts.  As ambassadors for the arts, representing New Hampshire, the Chamber Players performed in a national tribute to the great Brazilian composer Heitor Villa Lobos at New York City’sMerkin Concert Hall, presented a nine-concert series,“An American Chamber Music Retrospective,”under the auspices of theMacDowell Colony’sCentennial Anniversarycelebration, and have been the subject of feature articles in theNew YorkTimes, theBoston GlobeandSki Magazine.

<H3>THE MIGHTY FIVE</H3>
Romance to Revolution               
Led by Mily Balakirev, the Mighty Five were mid-19th century composers who sought to bring Russian music to the fore, who refused to present works by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Bach, Handel, et al, and who paved the way for 20th century revolutionary giants like Dmitri Shostakovich, and all the Russian composers in between, including Tchaikovsky, Glazunov and Rachmaninov.  Balakirev’s drama-infused Octet for strings, winds and piano, and Shostakovich’s haunting and powerful Piano Quintet serve as the centerpieces of this compelling program.
