About this event

Boat transportation to Thacher Island off the coast of the charming seacoast village of Rockport, Massachusetts. Climb one of the twin Cape Ann Light Station Lighthouses listed on the National Historic Register for awesome views of Cape Ann. Walk the 3 miles of groomed trails and visit the museum. A great place for picnicking and picture taking.

Tickets

Tickets required at least 24 hours in advance and are only available on this site. Each person, including children, must have their own ticket.

Ticket prices:

  • Adult Non- Member - $40
  • Child (age 3-12) - $10
  • Member TIA (Adult OR Child) - Free
  • Adult Rockport Resident - $15
  • Child Rockport Resident - Free

TSIA Membership

  • Individual ($40) – 2 free tickets per season
  • Family ($75) – 4 free tickets per season
  • Patron ($150) –6 free tickets per season
  • Life ($500) – 4 free tickets each season

Order Tickets

Select date and time, or click "More Options" to see additional dates and calendar. Available dates on calendar will have a dot, click on date (turns blue.) *You should have access to 4 boat times! On a computer scroll using the arrow key to move right, on a cell phone swipe with your finger. Select one of the 4 boat times, click "Confirm." Next select "Tickets" and under that menu heading, verify it is the date and time you want. Scroll down to choose desired ticket type then "Check Out." Total of only 6 tickets are available each trip. If tickets are unavailable, please try another time or date.

For sold-out date or time email tiaevents2019@gmail.com to be on waitlist. Include name, phone number, number of tickets, desired trip date and time.

Minimum Age for Event

Minimum age is 3 years. Under 12 require an Adult Sponsor to travel to island with child, maximum 5 children per sponsor.

Ticket Info

The name on the ticket must match the passenger attending who will be listed on the boat manifest. Print or show ticket on your cell phone to the captain.

Boat Departure Location

Launches leave from Rockport Granite Pier, at the end of Wharf Road. Address for GPS and driving directions: 16 Wharf Road, Rockport, MA. 01966. Map to Granite Pier

Parking

At Granite Pier, park only on the right side of the upper level. An island docent will advise when to go to lower level to depart. Vehicles parked incorrectly may receive a parking ticket.

Parking Fee

  • $6.00 for non-Rockport resident, pay by cash or check only.
  • Rockport residents with sticker park free.

At the red parking shack pay the attendant or leave fee in designated envelope.

Cancellation By Thacher and Straitsmouth Island Association (TSIA)

Boat trips depend on the weather. If light rain or fog, we still go. Occasionally TSIA cancels trips due to weather and sea conditions. Conditions at the dock can be different than conditions in open water. Please be aware of possible cancellations when making a reservation.

We always make safety a prority. If TSIA cancels a trip, a phone call and email is sent within 24 hours of departure and tickets for that trip are refunded including Service Fee.

Refund Policy

Tickets refunded, less Service Fee, only if cancelled more than 7 days before departure date. No refund if passenger cancels (any reason) less than 7 days before departure.

*If using a Member Benefit Ticket, please cancel so seat is available to others.

Thacher and Straitsmouth Island Association Waiver of Liability

A condition of being a passenger on the TSIA launch and visiting Thacher or Straitsmouth Island is agreement with and acceptance of the Thacher and Straitsmouth Island Association Waiver of Liability. *After reading the waiver, you must click yes to the waiver to purchase a ticket.

Covid Precautions: Vaccines are no longer required but strongly recommended. Masks are not required but recommended when in the enclosed buildings.

What should I bring to the event?

  • • Ticket with name (printed or on cell phone) for each passenger.
  • • Drinking water, sunscreen, jacket, mask and bug spray.
  • • Hat and sensible shoes to climb the tower and walk trails.
  • • The islands are off-limits to visitor's pets.

Services available on the island

There are picnic tables and a composting toilet on the island. Island merchandise is available for purchase, no food or beverages are available on islands.

Total time on trip

Between 2.5 to 3 hours. Life jackets provided and must be worn on the boat.

The Thacher and Straitsmouth Island Association (TSIA) was established in 1981 by the Thacher Straitsmouth Islands Town Committee (TSITC) as a non-profit group dedicated to raising funds for the restoration and on-going maintenance of Thacher and Straitsmouth Islands. On Thacher Island, the Town of Rockport owns the southern end of the Island and manages it via the TSITC and TSIA. The northern end is owned by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (U.S.F&WS) and is managed by the Town under an agreement with U.S.F&WS. On Straitsmouth Island, the Town of Rockport owns the northern end of the island and manages it via the TSITC and TSIA. The southern end is owned by Mass Audubon Society (MAS) and is managed by the Town under an agreement with MAS.
