Webinar Listening Session - CDBG Program Redesign

HCD provides leadership, policies, and programs to preserve and expand safe and affordable housing opportunities and promote strong communities for all Californians. By administering programs that provide grants and loans (from both state and federal housing programs), HCD creates rental and homeownership opportunities for Californians from all walks of life, including veterans, seniors, young families starting out, people with disabilities, farmworkers, and individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness. Over the last three decades, HCD has provided more than $3 billion of funding for the development of affordable housing and associated infrastructure.

<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN>HCD is redesigning the CDBG program to reflect budgetary shortages, address low expenditure rates and high levels of unspent Program Income, and meet federal requirements while ensuring the program is effectively serving the needs of California’s rural and non-entitlement communities in line with national best practices and State priorities.</SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN>After some initial stakeholder meetings and feedback on redesigning CDBG, including holding listening sessions throughout the State in March and releasing a survey in July, a process has been created to ensure a collaborative redesign.  A working group is being formed and another round of listening sessions will be held in August and September to inform the working group as the redesign work proceeds.</SPAN></P>
