About this event

  • 5 hours

This is a synchronous online class, which means you'll still attend class sessions during class time and receive plenty of hands-on experience and time with the instructor. You will need a camera and microphone on your laptop to participate in class. If you've wanted to learn at NSS, but have not been able to attend in-person, here's your opportunity to get a taste of our learning environment online!

----------------------------

Have you been intrigued by the world of web development? Maybe you have started self-studying and want a bit of guided direction; maybe you have been considering a career change and want to test the waters; maybe you see basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as an enrichment to your skillset within your current career. If you are looking for an in-person introduction to web development foundations, the Web Development Jumpstart course is designed for you.

Duration: This course is 33 synchronous hours over 3 weeks.

July 13 - 31, 2024

  • Saturdays | 9 am - 2 pm CT
  • Mondays, Wednesdays | 6 pm - 9 pm CT

*Registering for this event on Eventbrite enrolls you in the full 3-week course.

Next session: September 2024

What will the course cover?

  • How to build and deploy your own website
  • Demystifying web technologies & software development
  • Basic understanding of core web languages: HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • An overview of career options in software development
  • What options are available to go deeper: through self-study, bootcamps, traditional education or online resources.

For those that are considering an NSS bootcamp, materials covered in this course will give you a jumpstart on your pre-work, but it does not replace the pre-work.

How will you learn the material?

  • In-person/Online Synchronous instruction: Introduction to new topics will be covered by instructors who are working software professionals. They will cover topics through a combination of lecture and live-coding.
  • Mentored exercises: Apply your understanding of these new topics by doing, but don’t worry, you’ll have access to instructors if/when you need guidance.
  • Real-world project: What good is all this knowledge if you can’t apply it? By the end of this course, you will be able to build your own personalized website and share it with the world.
  • Materials to keep going: Whether using your new-found skills in your existing career, continuing your journey with self-study, or taking the next steps to pursue a career in web development, we are here to give you personalized guidance on how to continue after the end of the course.
