About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Camp dates: Monday, June 3rd- Friday, June 7th, 2024

Discover the transformative power of computational thinking in computer science! During these 5 half days, we will use wearable technology that combines music, performance, and play to explore STEAM concepts such as algorithms, pattern recognition, programming, and much more. Through hands-on activities, 6th through 9th grade students will develop essential problem-solving and computational thinking skills. Join us and unleash your potential to think, create, and innovate!

This is an inclusive summer camp. Students who self-identify as neurodivergent (who think, learn, communicate, and interact in ways that are not usually supported in schools) are especially encouraged to apply. Contact avasquez@neurodiversitycenter.org with any questions about the inclusive measures taken for this camp.

Not only is this camp free, thanks to an NSF Computer Science for All grant (#2122924), but neurodivergent students who complete the 5 day camp, could be eligible for a full sponsorship to attend a Digital Culture Summer Institute Camp session (June 10-21), a $200 value. See Digital Culture Summer Institute Camp session options here: Digital Culture Summer Institute (asu.edu)

Your Eventbrite ticket reserves your child/teen's spot. You will receive a follow up email from avasquez@neurodiversitycenter.org with directions on how to complete registration. A student information form and waiver will need to be completed in order for your child/teen to be fully registered.

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean to self-identify as neurodivergent?

Students who think, learn, communicate, and interact in ways that are not typically well supported in general education can be considered neurodivergent, whether or not they also have a disability or giftedness label. We do not require any documentation/proof of neurodivergence.

Where will the camp be located?

The camp will be held at Arizona State University's Tempe campus. Information about the building, room number, and drop off/pick up locations will be emailed to parents before the camp begins.

Are the instructors certified to teach my children?

Camp instructors are certified Arizona teachers with experience working with diverse students. Instructors will also be supported by ASU professors in the fields of teaching and technology.

My child has accommodations at school (504 or IEP). Will my child be able to participate fully?

We have designed our environment and activities with inclusivity in mind, yet we might not have thought of every circumstance. Feel free to email a list of your child's accommodations to us at avasquez@neurodiversitycenter.org.
