A hands-on look at the story behind Tormore community forest, from commercial woodland to biodiversity project

Guided Walk: We Bought A forest!

Join Sleat Community Trust’s Duncan for a guided walk through the Tormore community woodland and hear the story behind this remarkable journey, from commercial forestry to nature-conservation and hydro-electric power.

Please park in Tormore carpark and walk along the main track 50m to the polytunnel (meeting point) just above.

The walk will then include an overview and timeline of the development of the forest into woodland, footpath creation, and the success of broadleaf tree planting.

We'll talk about the flora and fauna of the woodland including our rare bat species, the special birdlife, our oak plantation, and the impact of deer activity .

We'll also walk via the community owned hydro-electric dam and generator.

The walk will finish at the Fank, where you have the option of walking back down to the carpark or joining the Peatland Restoration walk beginning at 14:15.

All welcome.

Well behaved dogs welcome on lead.

Location: Tormore forest carpark.

IMPORTANT: As places are limited and demand is likely to be high, if you cannot attend for any reason, please cancel your booking ASAP through the Eventbrite so that others on a waiting list may take your place!

This event is part of the South Skye Nature Festival 2026. The festival is being made possible by volunteers.
