IRC WA locally has never witnessed the high arrival numbers that we saw after the Afghan evacuation and the start of the war in Ukraine, all while the country was navigating an affordable housing crisis. Finding homes for clients(just as one aspect of our work) was undoubtedly not easy, yet it never put so much strain on our clients, local communities, our funding, and you as it does today.
It may sometimes feel too much; however, what helps IRC staff work daily with newly arriving refugees and immigrants is to remind ourselves of what we have achieved! We are constantly overcoming these challenges. What we accomplish with our clients is incredible.
We are resettling more people than ever. We are providing services tailored to our clients' needs. We are spearheading new ways of doing this work. Our words and actions show what it means to be welcoming, offer protection, and provide an antidote for the current environment. We are doing this. YOU are doing this for refugees, asylum seekers, and so many other newcomers to the countries where we operate.
