Service Learning Saturdays @ the Outdoor Activity Center (OAC)

This program facilitated by the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance and made possible by a grant from USDA Forest Service for our Atlanta Children’s Forest Network, provides the opportunity for youth 10 years and older to participate in meaningful activities encouraging conservation, stewardship and experiential learning on the second Saturday of every month (excluding January, July, and December).

Activities include trail building and maintenance, invasive plant eradication, habitat restoration and other activities needed to manage the facility and grounds of this unique urban resource!

**Farm Service Days are April through November.

Sign in and orientation will begin promptly at 10:00 AM. Youth and youthful volunteers can earn up to 3 hours of community service each month. All activities will be supervised by an adult coordinator. Activities occur at the Outdoor Activity Center unless another location is specified in advance of the upcoming date. The OAC is accessible via MARTA. If students from Atlanta Public School System, who require 75 community service hours to progress to the next grade level, participate each month they can amass about half of the required hours of service. College Students and other groups are also welcome to participate!

Frequently asked questions

Are there restrooms?

At the OAC, look for the big green door on the side of the building near the accessible ramp. At Hartnett Community Garden, there is a port-a-potty available.

I'm registered, but I have family members/friends who would like to join, can they come?

Yes, we welcome families, friends, and coworkers to come and serve with us. If service hours/tasks need to be verified, the participant must be registered, and have completed our virtual liability waiver. ://bit.ly/WAWAWaiver

Public parking? Will my car be okay?

The OAC parking lot is very small, and spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Street parking is available at the OAC and at the garden, most of which will be close to the site. Volunteers should hide or remove items of value and lock their doors.
