Water- An Overview of Colorado's Natural Resources

This course explores the development of water rights, the state administration of water rights, and current issues involving the use of water throughout our state. Topics include:

• The Colorado Water Wars of 1874
• Ditches and Ditch Rights
• Water Wells
• Trans Mountain Water Diversion
• The 2016 legislation approving the use of residential rain water barrels
• The Colorado Water Doctrine and the system of "prior appropriation"
• Issues revolving around the buying and selling of property (including specific rights to water and related title insurance coverage available to buyers -if any)
