Founded in 2016, Philadelphia Contemporary is a contemporary art organization whose mission is to connect the people and places of Philadelphia through art and partnership. Currently nomadic, Philadelphia Contemporary presents visual art, performance art, and spoken word across the city, with ambitions to establish a freestanding, globally oriented, and locally aware non-collecting arts institution.

Globe Dye Works

Poets Cynthia Dewi Oka and Yolanda Wisher invite you to a gathering of the fictitious Writerly Association of Philadelphia at <a href="https://www.globedyeworks.com/about" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Globe Dye Works</a>, a former textile manufacturing facility in the Frankford section of the city. <ul><li>6-7:30pm: Performance by cellist/vocalist Aijee Evans + interactivities created by Philadelphia Poet Laureate Airea D. Matthews, <a href="https://www.museumofblackjoy.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Museum of Black Joy</a>, and <a href="https://www.marshalljameskavanaugh.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Marshall James Kavanaugh</a>. </li><li>8-9pm: Poetry Karaoke Battle between local and out of town poets hosted by Anne Ishii of <a href="https://asianartsinitiative.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Asian Arts Initiative</a>. </li><li>9-11pm: Dance party led by DJ Junior of <a href="http://www.recordbreakin.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Record Breakin&#x27; Music</a>.</li></ul>Throughout the evening, enjoy food by <a href="https://honeysucklephl.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Honeysuckle Provisions</a>, open bar by <a href="http://www.artintheage.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Art in the Age</a>, and spend your ends at a <a href="https://www.oursisterbookshops.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Harriett&#x27;s Bookshop</a> pop-up. All members will receive a special giveaway item as well as opportunities to win dope raffle prizes. In Philly, poetics is a way of life, community, revolt, and recovery of our collective futures. It&#x27;s how we build histories that work for us. Come, connect, and get lit!

Ticketing: Space is limited and tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. This event is open to the public, ages 21 and over only. Refunds to the original form of payment will be permitted up to 7 days before the start of the event. Health + Safety: Please be prepared to show ID + proof of vaccination at the door.
