🌟 Discover the Architectural Heritage of Douglas Manor with Kevin Wolfe, AIA!

Join architect, landscape designer and historian Kevin Wolfe on a captivating walk through the historic streets of Douglas Manor, a planned garden suburb of single family houses developed by the Rickert-Finlay Company in 1906. The neighborhood includes a private, mile long shoreline and Dock on Little Neck Bay, shared in common by the 600 homeowners.

In addition to viewing eclectic residential architecture, ranging from early 20th century to mid Century Modern, the tour will highlight two historic house case studies. Kevin will discuss the special challenges of working within the regulations of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission for renovations and new construction, with a lively Q&A to gain valuable insights into historic restoration practices and contemporary design approaches.

The tour will also examine the history of the Garden Suburb movement in the US that was spurred by the Industrial Revolution, and the preservation efforts of local residents who achieved New York City historic district status for Douglas Manor in 1997. Discover how the Historic District continues to evolve as it faces new preservation challenges in the 21st century

The tour concludes with light refreshments on the porch of the Douglaston Club.
