Who is this weekend for?

It is mainly set up for those who would like to learn more about the history of our country from an Indigenous perspective. There is much that those of us who have settled here can learn regarding the impact of the Indian Act, what unceded territory means, what intergenerational trauma is, etc.

Is the Kairos Blanket Exercise an Indigenous ceremony?

Accepted Answer

No. The blanket exercise is an interactive retelling of the history and settling of North America from the perspective of those who have lived here since time immemorial. Many find it to be very informative and also impacting as they participate in the exercise.

Question 3

Will all the presenters be Christian?

Accepted Answer

Though we will look at some of these issues from a Christian perspective, we will also take time to listen to some voices that hold a differing view. Each presenter is specifically chosen for the story they have to share so that we can learn in an attitude of humility.

Is food provided?

Accepted Answer

Lunch on Saturday will be provided, as well as coffee/tea and snacks throughout the day. We do encourage you to plan to eat together with others on Saturday to discuss what you've learned together.

What does Walking Together in a Good Way mean?

Accepted Answer

Our hope is that we will begin to learn what this means. In the history of our city and country, settlers and Indigenous peoples have not walked together in a good way. There is much for us learn in how to do this. Hopefully we can build some bridges and tear down some prejudices.

How long will it take for us to learn to Walk Together in a Good Way?

Senator Murray Sinclair said, “Residential schools were with us for 130 years, until 1996. Seven generations of children went to residential schools. It’s going to take generations to fix things." "If you thought getting to the truth was hard, getting to reconciliation is going to be really hard.”
