Walkable North Berkeley

This urban hike explores a very walkable neighborhood of historic homes, a delightful culinary shopping district, a trend-setting school garden, a "found objects" sculpture garden, and the sites of one of the first haciendas in the East Bay as well as an early Victorian residential development; a creek runs through it.

We will note a bit of architecture as well as a little history. There is modest up and down but no steep climbs.

This is a moderate hike of 3.6 miles roundtrip with about 300 feet elevation change.

Where to Meet

Meet at the northwest corner of Vine and Milvia Streets (1941 Vine Street), about a mile walk or short bus ride from the downtown Berkeley BART station. Parking is available on nearby residential streets (without the two-hour limit on Saturdays), but check signs just to be sure.
