About this event

Join us for this guided walk, as we visit Hillside Park - and discover the workhouse that once sat beneath the park's trees. You will be guided through the demolished workhouse as we walk through its rooms and imagine the harsh daily routines imposed on workhouse inmates. While visiting the Boardroom, the only surviving part of the workhouse, we will look back at Victorian times and considered why impoverished people were so harshly treated.

Today, the ex-workhouse site is dedicated to the local community for leisure and enjoyment. While visiting the lovely gardens of Hillside Park and Caxton House Community Centre, we can celebrate the transformation of a place, once so hostile and bleak.

Walk's Accessibility - This walk is suitable for people of all ages and walking abilities. There are park benches to resting and the park has a gradual slope. However some of the paths through the park are not wheelchair user friendly.
