About this event

  • 1 hour

Walk starts and ends at Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce Street

Visit a neighborhood that had almost no residents a short 25 years ago. The Beerline is anchored by the Milwaukee Rowing Club, two beloved Milwaukee-based businesses, Turtle Park, and Kadish Park, with its outstanding skyline view. Is "Beerline" even an official neighborhood, like Bay View or Washington Heights? Hard to say. It's really the pivot point of four better-known neighborhoods: Riverwest, the East Side, Brady Street, and Brewer's Hill. We may have something of an identity crisis, but Beerline's newness and preponderance of condominiums does give it a distinct look and feel. Beerline Cafe and Lakefront Brewery are both great choices for a drink or a snack afterwards.

Host is Joe Wiesner, a resident of the neighborhood since 2005 and an original member of Strong Towns Metro MKE, which is part of a much larger national group that owes a lot of its foundation to what we learned from Jane Jacobs.

Rain: we'll still go in a drizzle. In a downpour, we'll stay dry under the Holton St Bridge until it passes

Transit:

  • MCTS Route 15 - use stop at Glover Ave, then walk east to the Booth St stairs and down to Commerce St
  • MCTS Route 14 - use Reservoir St stop, then walk south to Commerce and SW to Lakefront (that's a good ten minute walk)
  • No accessibility issues, although there are some optional stair climbs for anyone wanting to take in the view.
