Keith Kupferschmid - CEO of Copyright Alliance
Terrica Carrington - Copyright Counsel, Copyright Alliance

Keith Kupferschmid CEO  Before joining the Copyright Alliance, Keith served as the General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Intellectual Property for the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA). During his 16 years at SIIA, he represented and advised SIIA member software and content companies on intellectual property (IP) policy, legal and enforcement matters.

He has testified before Congress and various federal and state government agencies on IP issues and also supervised SIIA’s Anti-Piracy Division, including working with federal and state government officials on civil and criminal piracy cases.

Prior to joining SIIA, Keith worked as an IP attorney at the law firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, IP attorney-advisor at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO), Director of Intellectual Property at the United States Trade Representative, and Policy Planning Advisor at the U.S. Copyright Office.

Terrica Carrington Terrica Carrington is an attorney serving as Copyright Counsel with the Copyright Alliance. In her role as Copyright Counsel she has worked on a number of legal and policy issues related to copyright law, in addition to working with the Copyright Alliance’s creator members. 

Terrica is a 2016 graduate of the George Mason University School of Law. During her time in law school she gained a variety of experience in copyright law. While participating as a student attorney in the Arts & Entertainment Advocacy Clinic at GMUSL, Terrica co-authored a filing submitted to the U.S. Copyright Office on the effects of the DMCA’s notice and takedown process on middle class artists. Terrica was also selected as the First Place Winner of the 2015 Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association’s legal writing competition.

Additionally, Terrica’s previous experience includes various internships and employment with National Geographic, the Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Arts & Entertainment Advocacy Clinic, the Association of Public Television Stations, and WYZ Girl Entertainment Consulting, a boutique entertainment law firm based in D.C.

Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts

Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts began in 1983 as a unique collaboration of lawyers and artists to fulfill a mission to serve artists in need of legal knowledge and assistance. Since then, WALA has supported artistic expression and creative innovation serving the legal needs of the arts and cultural communities in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.

WALAis a501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides access to education, advocacy and legal services through workshops and seminars, legal clinics and pro-bono referral services for creatives and cultural organizations.

More than 350 of Washington’s top lawyers and law firms participate as volunteers in WALA’s legal services programs.
