Juneteenth Anchorage is an annual event celebrated in Anchorage, Alaska for over 30 years and will be held the week leading up to the actual Juneteenth highlighted by the following activities during :Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.Today  Juneteenth commemorates  African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week,  and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family        gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment,   self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all   races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in  our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society.

Juneteenth Anchorage

Juneteenth Anchorage in association with The Business Boutique, Sankofa Dance Theatre, The Gap Program and Paprazzi Kids present's the first Annual Wakanda Ball.
Kings and Queens, join us for an evening of elegance, culture, and empowerment. Let's enjoy great food with a three course meal, positive company, entertainment/music designed to showcase our rich cultur.. Come dressed to impress.... Afrocentric, African, and Wakandan inspired or traditional evening wear. 
EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND AND CELEBRATE REGARDLESS OF YOUR CULTURAL BACKGROUND
This event will take place at The Center at 7pm and will feature entertainment from Sankofa Dance Theatre, Underground Dance Company, Artistic Drift, Asenati, Starboi Eb’riima, Tashanne Casey, Mostly Melanin Arts, and Motivational Key Note Speaker Travis Love from Black Panther, The Walking Dead, The Have’s and Have Nots, and The Quad. He will also be visiting the youth at Mountain View Boys and Girls Club and participants of the black panther youth movie challenge through Anchorage Community Land Trust. All proceeds benefit Juneteenth Anchorage. Wakanda Ball 9pm-11pm after celebration Tickets start at $75 with student and buy one get one half off discounts available.
