VWDMA Spring Training
NWCOA Wildlife Control Operator Training Course (WCOTC)
March 28 - 29, 2022, 8:00 am - 5:30 pm
This course provides a broad overview of the animals commonly managed by WCOs and is taught by practitioners who share insightful solutions to many of the challenges our industry faces every day! Completion of this course and passing the exam earns you the VA CNAP, and the NWCOA Certification. It is also good for 16 CEUs toward the renewal of current CNAP holders. Topics include:
- Bats, birds, squirrels and other commonly encountered species
- Animal biology
- Animal handling
- Euthanasia
- Inspection
- Safety
Since its beginning in 1999, NWCOA has strived to improve industry standards by hosting training events designed to enhance professionalism within its ranks. The Wildlife Control Operator Training Course (WCOTC) is an example of that effort.
The information contained in the WCOTC is grounded in scientific research and the field experience of leading WCOs. So, you can be assured that the information is backed by scientific research and vetted by decades of hands-on field experience by successful WCOs. While NWCOA respects the work of research biologists and respects their contributions, we contend that academic research alone would not provide the technical and practical information needed for WCOs to resolve human-wildlife conflicts successfully. Thus, this certified training course combines practical and scientific information into a coherent agenda that provides the necessary information to resolve human-wildlife conflicts efficiently and responsibly.
DWR strongly recommends that each WCO have a copy of the Virginia Specific - NWCTP Wildlife Control Core Principles and Wildlife Species Information, which is a required manual for this course if you are using this course to earn your CNAP. VWDMA has a limited number available to be picked up at the March 28 event. You may order with your registration.
