VU PHL & Share Food Program

The concept is simple - we volunteer with a different nonprofit organization in Philadelphia on the second Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., then spend the afternoon at a local bar for food, drinks, networking and fun with fellow, like-minded individuals.This program was created to give young professionals the opportunity for inspiring and rewarding experiences that will help forge a passion for future volunteering – both with our organization and on their own. Volunteering Untapped was born out of the realization that young professionals in Baltimore, Chicago, and Philadelphia want to give back to their community, but simply don’t know the best way to get involved. We solve that problem.Our mantra? Volunteering…made easy.

SFP distributes food to hundreds of thousands neighbors in need each month, over 50% of whom are children and seniors or people with disabilities.We will be helping assemble boxes, pack boxes with food, and load boxes of food onto trucks or into a prep area for delivery to the community.Minimum age for warehouse volunteers is 13 years old. All volunteers under 18 years old must have a chaperone.You’ll be expected to lift products between 2-35lb boxes/items at a time during the packing processActivities:<ul><li>Senior Food Box packing: fill empty boxes with shelf- stable food </li><li>Box making, product preparation for assembly line</li><li>Quality-checking boxes, taping boxes closed, and stacking on pallets </li><li>Small cleaning and organizing tasks to aid in warehouse maintenance</li></ul> Transit and Parking info:<ul><li>Parking: Lower lot, below the apartment complex.</li><li>Nearby buses routes: 1, 60, 82 (Right outside parking entrance) 445 (Across the Street)</li></ul>
