About VRPH Academy
VRPH Academy is a series of educational bootcamps by VR Philippines aimed to foster and cultivate Virtual Reality development and content creation skills and talents in the Philippines.
About this Course
This course is focused on development of Virtual Reality games and applications for mobile devices (particularly those of the GoogleVR platforms, Cardboard and Daydream), with the Unity Engine.
What topics will be covered in this course?
3D Modelling with Blender
-Introduction to the creation of 3D assets for Virtual Reality.
Introduction to Unity
-Familiarization with one of the most common engine used in Virtual Reality development.
Design and Development for Mobile VR
-Hands-on project development that will teach techniques, design guidelines and best practices for VR
-Development of two whole projects:
- VR Shooting Game
- VR Tour App
Deploying Apps to Cardboard and Daydream w/ GoogleVR
-Optimization tips and standards for deploying on Mobile VR platforms
Who can participate?
This workshop is open to everyone - students or professionals, artists or programmers. You don't need to have prior experience in Blender, Unity or C#, but basic coding knowledge is expected.
What do I need to bring?
Participants are required to bring their own development machines (laptops are preferred, but give us a heads up if you intend to bring a desktop), and should already come pre-installed with the necessary software tools that will be used for the bootcamp.
Registration fees are inclusive of a GoogleVR-compatible headset, but you would still need to bring a compatible Android phone (must be at least Android 4.4 and has a gyroscope). A USB cable for your phone to be connected to the computer is also needed.
Make sure to also bring a mouse and extension cord for your laptops.
What software do I need to Install?
All the software that will be used during the bootcamp are available for free at the following links:
- Unity (at least 5.4.3)
- GoogleVR SDK
- Android SDK (no need for Android Studio)
- Java Runtime Environment
- Java Development Kit
What are included in the registration fee?
The registration fee includes lunch and snacks, as well as a GoogleVR-compatible headset that will be used for the workshop.
What are the payment options?
You can either pay online through Paypal, but you can also choose to pay at the venue itself on the day of the workshop.
