About this event

As a teacher, you have the most important job in our country because you inspire people to think critically and have a positive impact on the world. Voices On The Economy (VOTE) is a Tucson-based, award-winning program that teaches educators to present diverse perspectives in a balanced and accurate way so that students can make up their own minds about what they believe and find their own voices on the issues.

Join us for a free, one-day online workshop that will delve into the issue of income distribution, looking at it from the conservative, liberal, and radical perspectives. What are their different policy ideas? (Progressive taxes? Flat or consumption taxes? Universal basic income or maximum wage caps?) How does each perspective analyze the problem? Hands-on exercises will bring the material alive, and we will share materials you can use to bring these ideas back to your classroom.

No previous knowledge of economics is required. Appropriate for all subject areas and levels of educators from middle school through university. Lunch will be provided via Grubhub (details will be provided in early February). You will earn a certificate for 6.0 hours of professional development.

The Thomas R. Brown Foundation seeks to advance the use of economic principles in public and private decision making through strategic partnerships and educational programs. Our program goal is to equip teachers to increase student exposure to fundamental principles of economics in a neutral and nonpartisan way, and to help students develop an appreciation of how economic analysis applies to everyday choices as well as business and policy issues.
