Join Casey Trees and the National Park Service on June 22nd for a special opportunity to prune the summer suckers of the historic cherry trees. Suckers are an adventitious shoot which grows from a bud at the base of a tree or directly from its roots. Pruning these suckers allows for the tree to redirect its energy into growth within its canopy and producing those beautiful blooms and berries.
Who Should Volunteer? Anyone! No previous pruning experience is required.
Requirements
<UL>
<LI>All volunteers must sign a completed volunteer waiver form on the day of the event before participating. You will be asked to sign a National Park Service volunteer waiver as well.</LI>
<LI>No specific skills required. The event will start with a tool safety and pruning demonstration. Volunteers will have access to a National Park Service employee for any questions that arise.</LI>
<LI>Register in advance. Space is limited. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers.</LI>
<LI>Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. Closed-toe shoes are required. All necessary tools and safety gear will be provided.</LI>

Getting There These beautiful trees stretch from the Tidal Basin and West Potomac Park down to Hains Point. Our meeting location will be within this area and sent out to all registered attendees a few days prior to the event.
Parking is limited by the national mall, so public transportation is highly recommended. The closest metro station is Smithsonian station and there are many bike-share stations in the area as well.
