About this event

NOTE: EACH VOLUNTEER MUST BE REGISTERED BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE FARM. -- Minors (ages 12-17) must be registered by a parent or legal guardian.

*CURRENT* 2024 schedule: Fridays 9:00am-12:00pm. If a date is not visible on the Eventbrite calendar that is because it is unavailable. We make sure to reserve several Fridays a month for individual volunteers.

New Leaf Agriculture offers refugees from traditional farming cultures the chance to reconnect and grow in a trade that they are already passionate about. Volunteers help the refugee farm crew in building out our twenty-acre regenerative farm. You might do a variety of tasks such as creating farm pathways, establishing cover crops, forming new beds, harvesting, and many other things while working alongside our New Leaf crew.

Each workday has different activities, depending on what needs to be accomplished at the farm that day. Some heavy lifting may be required as well as the use of gardening tools. New Leaf employees are committed to your safety and will take every reasonable precaution to keep you safe.

When you arrive there is a driveway with a small white New Leaf Farm sign in front of it. Drive down the gravel road and park in front of the open-sided barn by the trailer/walk-in cooler and a farm manager will come and meet you near the parking area.

If you get lost that morning please call your group lead or (512) 827-8398 and we will get back to you ASAP.

While volunteering at the farm wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, long pants, and bring sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. Water bottles should only be filled from the processing trailer or the wash shed. All other locations are nonpotable water.

CAN I BRING CHILDREN OR DOGS? The farm and activities are not appropriate for children under 12 years old and children 12-17 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Please complete a registration for any children that will be accompanying you. We also love dogs but since this is a working farm, dogs are not allowed.

WHAT AM I NOT ALLOWED TO BRING? MRC is a drug and tobacco-free work environment. Staff, volunteers, and visitors are not permitted to possess, sell, use, or be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. The use of tobacco products – including chewing tobacco, snuff, e-cigarettes, etc. – is not permitted on the New Leaf Farm.

While this volunteer activity is rain or shine, we do cancel in times of severe weather. We will reach out the morning of to let you know if we have to cancel.

Please remember to log your volunteer hours before you leave. You may contact us at newleafvolunteers@mrcaustin.org with any questions or concerns.
