About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

A vocal universe constructed by composers from China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Iran, and United Kingdom. These compositions are selected from 40 submissions from 16 countries in the 2025 Vocalverse Open Call. The founder and the co-artistic directors of Vocalverse will perform these groundbreaking compositions all at once.

Tonight's repertoire is immense, though the instrumentation is mostly for only one vocal artist. We are exploring the extremes, and looking forward to breaking more extremes of vocal music:
the extremes of timbral possibilities and maximalizations with about vocalverse by Yifan Shao (b.2003, CHN)
the extremes of fluidity between subvocalization and vocalization with Unvoiced by Gloria Xia (b.2004, CHN)
the extremes of lyricism in a xenharmonic and multiphonic singing world with The Horizon Melted into the Sea by Chang Ge (b.1999, CHN)
the extremes of dramaturgic diversity in words or even syllables with When Words Alive by Soheil Shirangi (b.1987, IRN)
the extremes of playful manipulation with p(M) by Kari Väkevä (b.1957, FIN)
the extremes of vocal range and imagery with Notes by Daria Baiocchi (b.1978, ITA)
the extremes of the power under simplicity and space sensation with Gloria by Volker Ignaz Schmidt (b.1971, GER)
and of course, the special duet between the Yifan and Lauren (b.2000, GBR)…

Get ready for an unparalleled journey in the oldest instrument, voice.
