Vocal Jazz Workshop

South Florida Conservatory of Music help students create a lifelong relationship with music and to enjoy playing a musical instrument. With us, you or your child will learn how to play by ear, improvise, read lead sheets, chord progressions, play popular songs and classical masterpieces. Our ultimate vision is to offer a variety of creative classes to students of all ages. Our classes include Piano, Guitar (acoustic, electric, ukulele and bass) and Voice.

<P>Join jazz vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli and bassist Pat O'Leary for a workshop that will help you explore repertoire, develop your swing feel, get comfortable communicating with instrumentalists, learn how to approach scatting and above all, have fun!</P>

<P CLASS="_1mf _1mj"><STRONG>Gabrielle Stravelli</STRONG></P>

<P>Award-winning vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her rich sound, original compositions and her unique take on material from the Great American Songbook as well as by contemporary artists as varied as Willie Nelson,  Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and John Fogerty. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric and was called “a powerhouse of individual expression” by David Finkle of The Village Voice.</P>
<P>In April, Gabrielle will release her fourth album, “<EM>Pick Up My Pieces: Gabrielle Stravelli Sings Willie Nelson</EM>” a far reaching exploration of Nelson’s catalog, from his earliest works to his most recent creative efforts.</P>

<P><STRONG>Pat O'Leary</STRONG></P>
<P><SPAN>Patrick O'Leary, bassist, studied piano and bass at Potsdam State University's Crane School of Music where he received his B.A. in music. Originally from Buffalo and now living in New York City, he has toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, South America, Australia, and Japan with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, the Illinois Jacquet Orchestra, the Hal Garper Trio, and Teri Thornton. Also with Hampton, he recorded the Grammy-nominated Sentimental Journey (Atlantic). O'Leary has recorded with J.R. Monterose, Mundell Lowe, Mel Lewis, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jerry Bergozi, and Scott Robinson. Other artists with whom O'Leary has played include Diana Krall, James Moody, Junior Cook, Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Barry Harris, Junior Mance, Joe Williams, and Marlena Shaw. He regularly appears at The Blue Note, The Village Vanguard, Bradley's, Fat Tuesdays, The Iridium, and has recently performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.</SPAN></P>
