VNRC Building Tour with V.I.A.
Join AIAVT for an architect-led tour of the VNRC headquarters
Tour a building that received a gut rehab with the architects who designed it, turning this 19th century historic structure into a high-performance and even net-zero energy building.
Vermont Natural Resources Council’s goal was to transform a newly acquired 1880s-era home, steps away from the Vermont Statehouse, into a net-zero facility using low-embodied carbon materials, including salvaged building elements, recycled insulation, supplemental-cementitious- material (SCM) concrete, low-embodied carbon drywall, and all-electric fossil-fuel-free systems. Come learn how the design team tackled these challenges and achieved a building with net positive operational energy since occupancy. Check out the on-site stormwater mitigation strategies that attenuate storm events helping to mitigate future flood potential in a dense neighborhood. Tour the facility while learning how a holistic decision-making process allowed the team to consider objective and subjective aspects of this historic project to balance the sometimes- competing project goals.
Earn 2.5 AIA LU|HSW
Agenda:
- Presentation and walking tour of the building and grounds with Vermont Integrated Architects (V.I.A.)
- Reception with complimentary refreshments provided
